Most families do not know the bath is coming. Those who do are still surprised by how much they love it. Here is why the bath splash is the moment everyone talks about afterwards. I have watched it happen at the end of almost every cake smash session I have ever shot. The baby is lifted, warm and sticky with frosting, into a beautifully styled bath. The water is warm. There might be a rubber duck. And then something shifts. The baby relaxes completely, starts to splash, looks up, and laughs. The parents get out their phones. And then I remind them I am still photographing. Why the bath section works so well By the time we reach the bath, your baby has been through quite an experience. They have had their portrait taken, met a new person, explored a new environment, and eaten a considerable amount of cake. They are relaxed, they are happy, and all the social energy of the earlier parts of the session has melted away. The result is a baby who is completely in the moment. No performing, no uncertainty. Just pure joy in warm water. These are often the most natural, most unguarded photographs of the entire session. Families often tell me the bath photos were their favourites.
